Disrupting Trafficking on Figueroa

We need to care for those who are most vulnerable in our communities. For far too long human trafficking has flourished on Figueroa. Many students and families are exposed to criminal activity and there is a weak support system for the young people who are being trafficked.

Our office has assembled a task force consisting of the City Attorney Hydee Feldstein-Soto, LAPD, and service nonprofits to disrupt this decades-long problem. The main goal of the taskforce is to end trafficking on Figueroa without criminalizing those who have been victimized. Our strategy is to target the “johns” and the businesses that are supporting trafficking.

To date the task force has accomplished:

  • The City Attorney has sent out  over 800  of “Dear John” letters to vehicles that are frequenting the area and patronizing trafficking.
  • LAPD has conducted several investigations on local motels on Figueroa Boulevard.
  • Closed 4 motels and placed conditions on another 5 motels.
